Continentals are also know as Dutch gags, we call this a 3 ring as the top ring is just for the cheek pieces and the main ring or lower rings can be used for the reins depending on the leverage required.
Mouth sizes 4 1/2" & 5" have smaller shanks than those larger sizes.
